Come to Our Open Houses to Give Rowing a Try!

If you’re an 8th-12th grade student attending (or zoned for) W-L High School, we’d love for you to join our team! Rowing is a spring sport, but we get started in the fall/winter with Open Houses and winter conditioning.

Trying a new sport in high school can feel overwhelming, but we’re here to help. Come to our Fall Open Houses to get a head start on the spring season.

What Are Open Houses?
They’re a chance to meet our coaches and current team members, hop into a boat, and learn the basics of rowing. Parents are welcome, too, to hear more about the team and what to expect.

Fall Interest Meeting:
[Date and Time TBD – Check Back Soon for Details!] Washington-Liberty High School Little Theater

Open Houses / Times TBD at Columbia Island Marina:
Saturday, October 3, 2026
Saturday, October 24, 2026

To Row on the Water at Open Houses, You Must Pass a Swim Test.
Friday swim tests will take place at the W-L Pool. (Dates and times TBD!) The swim test consists of swimming three lengths of the pool (any stroke, untimed), treading water for 1 minute, and putting a life jacket on while in the water.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Head Coach Kara McPhillips (kara.mcphillips@apsva.us) if you have any questions.

Also be sure to check us out at Winter Conditioning, and complete this Team Interest Form to get on our mailing list.
