Spring Mulch Sale
Posted January 24th, 2008 by Greg Willis
The Washington-Lee Crew Boosters are asking for your help with our annual shredded hardwood mulch fundraiser. Washington-Lee Crew is one of the most successful high school rowing programs in the United States. In addition, Washington-Lee Crew has a record of academic excellence, with rowers going on to row at top collegiate programs.
Fundraising by the W-L Crew Boosters provides money to buy shells (boats), oars, motorboats and other necessary equipment to help Washington-Lee Crew maintain a competitive edge. In addition, the W-L Crew Boosters provide financial aid, as needed, so all students have the opportunity to participate. The primary goal of our mulch fundraiser is to raise that money, while providing a high quality mulch product to our supporters. It is major undertaking involving hundreds of volunteer hours over an entire weekend. In addition, we have been price competitive.
In order to lessen the burden on our rowers and volunteers, we are limiting the number of bags to be sold to 5,200. In order to raise enough funds to meet the team’s needs we are raising our prices. We hope that you will continue to buy mulch as a way of supporting Washington-Lee Crew, a truly great tradition. If you have any questions please contact Juliana Ehrlich at 703-527-7454 or via email at julianae@bowa.com.
By buying mulch, you’ll support Washington-Lee Crew in a substantive way. Since the W-L Crew Boosters is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, 40 percent of your purchase is tax-deductible, as is 100% of any additional donation you contribute.
Of course, there are also practical considerations for buying Washington-Lee Crew mulch. You will:
- Get high-quality shredded hardwood mulch (harvested in West Virginia) delivered to your home.
- Eliminate the need to travel to a big-box store or nursery for mulch.
- Avoid messing up your own vehicle.
- Spare yourself the time and trouble of lugging heavy bags of mulch.
An order form is available. Please return it with your check by February 22 via your neighborhood rower or by mail to the address on the form. Don’t forget to indicate your neighborhood rower’s name on your form.
Whether or not you need mulch, please consider making a donation (there is a line for that on the form as well). Can we count on your help to continue Washington-Lee Crew’s proud, winning tradition? We urge you to act today - Success on the water depends on your support. Thank you for your time and continuing loyalty to Washington-Lee Crew.

Poinsettias & Holiday Greens Sale
Posted October 23rd, 2007 by Greg Willis
The 2007 Holiday Poinsettia sale has been launched, and your child has a packet full of instructions and order forms! This is a major fund-raiser for W-L Crew. Its success depends on all rowers and parents participating. In addition, credits from these sales will count toward your rower’s fundraising requirements for this year.
If you or your rower did not pick up a sales packet at the 10/11 meeting, then they can contact a team captain or e-mail Myra Probasco at Basco5860@aol.com to receive one.
All order forms are due Monday, Nov. 19 and/or Nov. 26. The Nov. 19th orders must be picked up at W-L’s Little Theater on the morning of Dec. 1. The Nov. 26th orders must be picked up the morning of Dec. 8. Please let us know if you can help us distribute the orders on those days. We need at least 4 parent helpers throughout those times.
