It’s been an energetic start to the school year for W-L Crew!
October’s Open Houses brought a great group of prospective rowers, coxswains, and families to learn more about the team. If you couldn’t make it, there’s still time to check us out! Contact me to learn more at kara.mcphillips@apsva.us.
Our summer Learn-to-Row camps and fall program through One Arlington Rowing have also introduced lots of new athletes to the sport. It’s been wonderful to see their excitement grow alongside their skills and teamwork. Several are planning to join W-L Crew, and we’re eager to see what they accomplish in the months ahead!
Next up: winter conditioning! This important training period helps athletes develop the cardiovascular fitness, strength, and technique they’ll need for spring racing.
- Returning rowers start Monday, November 16, meeting in the cafeteria.
- New rowers start Monday, November 30, meeting in the Little Theater.
Winter conditioning is optional, but we strongly encourage athletes to participate. It’s a terrific opportunity to build fitness, prepare for the spring season, and strengthen connections with teammates. That said, other winter sports are another excellent way to stay active, so don’t worry if rowing isn’t your winter activity!
One more date to save: our annual W-L Crew Triathlon will take place Saturday, February 6. This is both a fun team tradition and an important part of our program, and participation is expected of all team members.
There’s so much to look forward to this year! Thank you for helping make W-L Crew such a welcoming, supportive community. Let’s carry this great start into a terrific season, both on and off the water!
