Green Days & Open Houses

Open House

The Open House on November 3rd is held specifically for novice athletes and parents. If enough athletes are present it is also possible to get on the water in a shell.

Where: Potomac Boat Club, 5330 Water St. NW, Washington DC. Near Key Bridge.
When: November 3rd.
Time: 10-12pm
Cost: none
Transportation: None. All athletes must find their own way to and from the boathouse. Kids often car pool. You can also run down, or catch the metro. Talk to the experienced rowers… Novice parents- note, there is very limited parking near PBC and most of it is metered. Just FYI.

Green Days

Green days are meant for training on land and on the water.

Who: Everyone. 8th-12th grade, as long as you go (or will) to W-L. Novices can learn the sport, experienced team members can get out and work on skills and fitness. Novices and experienced athletes will train separately.
Where: Potomac Boat Club, 5330 Water St. NW, Washington DC. Near Key Bridge.
When: Fall Green Days start Tuesday, October 2nd, and will run on Tues/Weds/Thurs for the first 4 weeks of October (10/2-4, 10/9-11, 10/16-18 and 10/23-25).  Practices will be at Potomac Boat club from 3:45 to 5:45pm.  Athletes are responsible for their own transportation to and from practices. Novice parents- note, there is very limited parking near PBC and most of it is metered. Just FYI.
Cost: none

To go on the water you must have:

1. A current physical on file with the (Hand Delivered to Michael Harrington) W-L Athletic Trainer. Click Here for the Form
2. A swim test (more below, novice athletes only)
3. A USRowing waiver signed. Click Here to Sign the Online Form
Use access code: X9TXC
4. Emergency Contact Form:  Click Here For Emergency Contact Form

Note: Returning rowers should bring a new emergency contact form, but their USRowing waiver from the spring is still valid until 12/31.

Additional Swim Test (10/4)

We are adding one more swim test on Thursday (10/4) after school (3:15pm @ the W-L pool). We had more than expected at the test yesterday, but there were a few who couldn’t make it. As before, please bring a bathing suit, a change of clothes and a plastic bag for wet clothes – the swim test will be 3 lengths (any style/speed) + 1 min tread in street clothes.

All three items must be completed without touching the sides or bottom of the pool. You may use any stroke to complete the laps. If you have trouble we will help you! So don’t let swimming be a deterrent to joining the crew. (And almost never do boats flip, or people go in the water… this is merely for safety.)

Lastly, look for us on Facebook and Twitter: search for W-L Crew on FB, and washleecrew on twitter.

Note to W-L Athletes involved in other fall sports: Unfortunately you may not participate if you are already doing another fall sport for W-L. So if you have an off day or finish early you may not come to PBC to row instead. Novices are still welcome to attend the open houses on Saturdays.
