Winter conditioning for W-L Crew is essential for rowers to prepare for the physical and mental demands of the sport. Winter Conditioning is not mandatory for participation in the Spring crew season but is highly recommended. For novices, it provides ample time to learn and fully understand the rowing stroke prior to getting on the water at the end of February as well as developing the necessary rowing-specific fitness.
We will work on rowing technique, endurance, strength and mental race training – on the erg, running and other conditioning methods. Various intensities of work will be utilized in an effective and cohesive strategy to build a solid foundation for a successful Spring season.
Please come to practice prepared for working out in and outdoors – dress in layers so you can add/remove clothing as needed, and avoid cotton. You should have a very good pair of new, well-fitting running shoes. Bring a water bottle and any other essentials you need during practice. Snacks are vital for refueling following practice.
Please note there is no fee for participating in Winter Conditioning.
According to school policy, those student-athletes participating in a Winter W-L Sport may not come to and participate in Winter Conditioning.
